Nine Pharaohs Walk Into a Classroom

Back in the Flash days I had a whole set of “Famous Pharaohs” activities: a mouseover page, a wheel game, and a match game with a teaser that had kids shouting out the answer before the picture ever showed up. Flash is gone. The pharaohs aren’t. They’ve moved over to Dueling History.

Meet the Pharaohs menu: Meet, Greet, Hover, Spin, Match and Password activities

Meet the Pharaohs is a six-step sequence on nine rulers of Ancient Egypt: Menes, Djoser, Khufu, Menkaure, Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Akhenaten, Tutankhamen and Ramses II.

  • Meet – hover over each pharaoh to read his or her story, with pictures.
  • Greet – the teaser. Clue, then picture, then name. Shout the answer before it appears!
  • Hover – a quick review of what each pharaoh accomplished.
  • Spin – spin the wheel for a clue and pick the pharaoh who matches it.
  • Match – race the clock to match every clue with its picture. Beat the class record!
  • Password – Nefertiti feeds you clues. Click the right word before time runs away.

Each step builds on the one before, so they work best in order. Every page has Menu, Back and Next buttons in the corner, and the Match and Password games keep the class record on the computer you play them on. It all runs right in the browser – nothing to download, no Adobe AIR.
